ANTI-FREEZE FORMULA? HELP !

Postby rmgray on Sun Dec 28, 2008 10:14 pm

OK. I finally got everything together and I DID it! My first run (23 miles) ended in a melted PCV cap. An autopsy revieled my KOH was way too concentraited...In looking back I discovered that I had mixed one TABLESOON instead on one TEASPOON of KOH in 1300ml of distilled water.A really dumb mistake. So I tried one teaspoonful...STILL too much. It was running @30amps. So I cut THAT in half. .02 oz. THAT wasn't enough. Made my set-up run @ 4amps. I am shooting for 15amps cold,20 warm. No more than 20. So I made the same run (23 miles) and pulled over twice to add a few pinches of KOH till I got my goal of 20amps. I came home a happy man ! I couldn't wait for a trip to Albuquerque (160 miles) to test for mileage and play with my efie on the interstate. Well, last night the temperature dropped to 7degrees and froze my whole set-up to smithereens! It didn't break anything ,thankfully. It took all day in front of the stove to thaw my powercell and bubbler. Now, I did have 10% metheyl alcohol in both units as advised by someplace I read. Does any one have a better anti-freeze mixture; one that has worked for you. If I don't get some really good advise on this problem, I'll try maybe a 50% mix of metheyl-alcohol. While that may stop the freezing it may bring up other problems.
My set-up is the 16 plate design by Bob Volk running in a '97 s-10 Blazer.

Thanx for listening

Hi , How is your 160 miles Albuquerque trip. Did your anti freeze help and did the cold temp reduce the H2 generation?

Thanx for listening I been using (( 99% Isopropyl alcohol) I found at meijer fer 2 bucks =+-I tested it alone in a cell and it did not act as an electrolyte.I put about a third of the cell with alcohol the rest of my cell with my electrolyte. did not freeze at - 2 F. well thats all the colder it got here so it could get colder and still not freeze. and U can add more with out ending up with to much in the cell. hope it helps ya dude

Well OK. I finally found that a good anti-freeze that seems to work for me is methyl alcohol
@ 30% of the total electrolight. I'll bet that the isopropal will work as well. My 260 mile run ( to Albuquerque & back was disappointing....0 increase in mileage. HHO is being produced in good quantities @ 22 amps...everything seems to be hooked up OK. I have O2 extenders on 3 sensors before the cat. my MAP enhansor seems to be working. Still not increasing mileage. I have become interested in the Stanley Myers unit with ss tubes...immpressed with the output with really low amperage. SS tubing required is quite expensive though. $350 for 2 6foot pieces! I haven't given up on plates and I
WILL get this snafu fixed ! Of course, any comments are appreciated.

In my opinion, the isopropyl alcohol is better, but 30% it seems to be to much even if U used methanol. I recomand a maximum 10% of isopropyl alcohol. The alcohol increase the conductivity of the water. In that case the dielectrical constant of the water drops very much bellow 80 pF/m (aprox. for tap water), resulting a very low capacitance of your generator.

See U on forum :D
