no a pwm only needs power to run the circuitry, it can be powered up from any ignition circuit in your car. What causes heat is the switching for the mosfets. a pwm controls the duty cycle of the cell through the negative wire not the positive wire, so the power used is the same as the power for the cell nothing more. All the heat and boil overs can be controled with out a problem just mix your electrolite for the amps that you want and use the pwm. do some research before posting. there are thousands of free plans all over the internet to build one easly that will eliminate all the problems that you guys are having. i have had my system installed on my lexus for a year now and dont have any of the problem that are mentioned here, and i will be glad to post another video on utube to show how its done. bottom line weather u buy one or build one get one, you will see the benifits, like all our parents said DONT KNOCK IT UNTILL YOU'VE TRIED IT
