What do you think?

Postby North on Wed Apr 07, 2010 8:56 pm

Just wanted to pass this by you and see what you think.
I have a '81 Volkswagon truck, diesel which is n/a. Not sure of the mileage yet as I have only have this one for a few months and have new injectors on the way. The clock is reading 385,000 kms but the engine was swapped out for one with 40000 k on it and the head and injector pump are new.
I put together a dry cell, approx 5"x 7" including gaskets, 1/8" spacing between the plates which there are 11, both end plates negative and the center plate positive.
The electrolite tank was made out of 4" PCV with caps and holds approx 3L. The lines in and out are 3/8" with a filler fitting on it with a rubber stopper.
I am mixing the electrolite at about 100 ml KOH to a 1L of distilled water which gives me about 14.5-15.0 amps draw.
When tested (two nights ago) with a home made flow meter it was producing 650 to 700 ml/30 seconds by volume, I not sure of the minutes as my 1L bottle was empty before the time came around.
The engine didn't smooth out (although it runs smooth for a diesel normally) it did drop in rpm a slight bit (the draw on the alternator)
The output hose was put in the snorket up to the air filter, the temp of the dry cell was very cool ( after 1.5 hours of running I could still put my hand on it and it was cool to the touch)
The only thing I really noticed was that at 50 kph it didn't seem to need as much throttle to keep it there.
I know I am long winded but some of my questions are, 1 Is my storage tank too large? 2 Am I running too much amprere or not enough? What should I be looking for in production of HHO (the engine is a 1.6L)? Is it running too cool?
This truck has no O2 sensor so I don't need a EFIE and the amps appear to stay the same while driving (but I haven't taken it on a long run yet) so I don't think I need a PWM.
So I am looking for some input, what do you think? I will keep you informed of my progress as I plough through it

David,

Everything seems good. I think you need to top it off with fuel and then drive it to see what your mileage gain is. Having everything cool and producing the amount of HHO you are, everthing should work fine. Amp useage with your HHO setup looks right on as well.

Simply start testing the HHO setup to see your mileage gain. Run through a tank or so and see. If you don't know what your before mpg was, then you can simply unhook the HHO kit and run a tank or so through to get your before mileage.

If you want to test your "True HHO Gain", then you can also run your car with the HHO hooked up but have the hose exit the car instead of the HHO going into the engine intake. That way, you can see what your mileage is with the HHO system hooked up and drawing a load on your alternator but not helping the engine. Then after a tank or so, take your HHO hose and put it in your engine intake and see what the difference is with HHO injecting into your engine. This way you will be able to tell the gain difference with the HHO running (both into the air and into the engine). This is really a good way to see what HHO does for performance and mileage incrase.

JUST MAKE SURE WHEN YOU HAVE THE HHO SYSTEM RUNNING AND THE OUTPUT TUBE NOT IN THE ENGINE, IT IS NOT ANYWHERE NEAR THE ENGINE. IT MUST BE EXITING THE CAR AND AWAY FROM THE ENGINE SO YOU DON'T HAVE A FIRE OR EXPLOSION!!!!!!!

Yes.... long winded as well but hopefully you get it.

I haven't had a chance to do mileage tests yet, got tied up with a VW Golf that is need of alot of attention. I have been using the caddy to drive to work and back so will try to get something done.
I have been using the HHO and it seemed to help however I did notice a drop in the ampmeter last week and when I looked at the generator it appears to have some brown tingh to it.
Will try and get it removed and checked this week-end coming (I have a fairly full plate but will see what I can do)

Ok. What are you using for your hho electrolyzer? Are you also using distlled water for your HHO solution?

I am using KOH and distilled water, the storage tank I built for the dry cell is made of PVC pipe with the ends capped off and epoxied. It might have had some comtamination there I not sure. Hopfully I get a change to look at it soon. I have to replace a ball joint on a 4x4 today as well as time a injection system on the Golf I have in the garage.

I pulled the dry cell out and tore it down, it appears that the plates I have are not 316 or 304 ss so I am going to try and locate some more and reassemble and start over again.

Anyone know of a good place for ss in the Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
