electrotite types

Hi Everyone

I have just read of a guy having great success using 100% pure distilled white vineger as electrolite/catalist. Anyone heard of this? He claims it keeps his hho gen clean as a whistle and produces more hho at lower amps than almost anything else. Has anyone played with this?..........................Newguy/rmg

havent tried 100% vinegar but i did try the baking soda-vinegar mix that someone had to keep it from freezing.the baking soda-vineager mix makes a chemical reaction and really has a very good production but it pulled so many amps it fried my toggle switch.

One thing to keep in mind when using baking soda is that it will create a build up in the lines ( one does not or will notice until deminished performance is noticed). Use good quality clear lines.

I had heard or read of someone using ??? which they purchased at a hardware store as the catalyst, but just can't remember what the product was. They felt it was a much better conductor than the baking soda and also didn't need to be replaced as often. Anyone have any ideas???

you should probably be using a high current relay instead of running the current through a toggle switch. That way, you can controla high current circuit with a lower current circuit :geek:

Hi Pudderduc !

I use potassium hydroxide (KOH) availible from a bunch of sources onthe internet and E-BAY. 500ml will last you long time. I got mine from ARTCHEMICALS for around $14 + $15 shipping. I have to warn you, however, my order took over a month to get processed and in my hands. Other places promise next day shipping but who knows....

FOR WINTER i HAVE FOUND 99%alcohol dose not act as an electrolyte. about 1/3 of the gen. solution did not freeze at -2degrees F.might go lower, thats all the colder its been here

I have also heard of the distilled white vinegar and plan to use it in some bench test soon,It fits the requirements chemically to do the job and is used to clean heating elements in other things as coffee pots so we shall see.The key to any thing we use is to measure the current as the electrolyte is added to control the current some.Using the vinegar would solve the cleaning issue and then an alcohol added may help the freezing?

Distilled vinegar doesn't seems to be a good choice, because the vinegar is very unstable (is liquid and boil next to the water boiling temperature 118 Celsius degrees). Also the baking soda is dangerous for stainless steel electrodes and also produces CO in a HHO generator. DO NOT USE BAKING SODA OR VINEGAR OR BOTH.
Try instead potassium carbonate. Is not corrosive. HHO production is very good. One spoon for 4 liter of distiled water - watch the amps!

I think you'll find the boiling point of water is 100C or 212F. I would certainly check on the use of potassium carbonate with stainless steel. I know that sodium carbonate eats the chromium content of the S/S.
