question with hydrogen to metals

Postby proff on Mon Mar 15, 2010 7:36 pm

i have heard that Hydrogen can make an alloy brittle and over time fall apart.
Has anyone else heard or had this happen to them?

well it depends,
metals in an hho cell are in a highly corrosive enviroment.
stainless steel 304 and 316 should be the only metals used. 316 being the better choice.
any wiring should be covered in appoxi or something like it

Due to the corrosion process any metal that will leach out its component into the electrolyte should not be used.
Stainless steel contain chromium in it. No matter the voltage high or low, HC will be released. Obviously the more current the faster it will be released.
If you can look up the "Edison Battery" and start looking from there.
