Thanks billhac,
I do have a question or two.
What mixture do you use when using sodium hydroxide? ( AKA Caustic Soda and Lye )
How much chlorine gas is created during electrolysis?
Does this mixture become quite ( dangerously ) caustic or is it just a skin irritant?
Does the mixture keep the plates clean? ( I assume it does for obvious reasons)
I am using 3 cells in +-+-+- (series) with varying amounts of bi- carb, hydrogen peroxide, and distilled water. I can make it very active but I blow 30 amp fuses when I get it too strong and it also generates too much heat.( warped my plastic lids once!) The biggest problem seems to be crudding up my mixture, even in short order or having the same thing happen to my plates. I have switched from radiator anti freeze to cold temp windshield washer anti freeze ( alcohol based) to minimize the negative effects of glycol based products. This appears to have less of a negative affect on HHO production.
I read somewhere that someone was using vinegar in their mixture. Seems pointless to me since the bi carb and vinegar are not compatible, one canceling out the other. Truth be told, I am running out of mixture options. The benefit of what I am using is that there are no dangerous gasses or chemicals being produced but it seems that my output is simply too low to be worthwhile. I have made new rings and re-sealed my fittings to be sure I am not losing gas.
Anyway, have a great and fun day.
Blue.
